Parc del Fòrum

A sea of facilities on the Mediterranean

Hola Barcelona, your travel solution

A large site on the seafront groups a series of facilities and open spaces where concerts, conferences and trade fairs are held. Parc del Fòrum is a zone recovered from the sea that was built to house the Universal Forum of Cultures, which was held in Barcelona in 2004.

Why visit the Parc del Fòrum?

Even though it is called a park, it is not strictly a green space but an area full of all kinds of spaces:

  • The Esplanade: the central location of the Fòrum, with a total surface area of 84,000 m², where trade fairs, music festivals and other large-scale events are held. There you can also find the forest of columns and the roofed structures known as the Ocellets (Little Birds).
  • The Fòrum building: built by the Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, its triangular floor plan is an icon of Barcelona’s new architecture. It is home to the Blue Museum of natural sciences.
  • The CCIB: Barcelona International Convention Centre, a modern enclosure with the capacity for 15,000 people, designed by Josep Lluís Mateo, which is linked by means of an underground passage to the auditorium in the Fòrum building.
  • Parc dels Auditoris: an open-air concert venue.
  • The solar farm: designed by Elías Torres and José Antonio Martínez Lapeña, it is a sloped, suspended pergola that supports 3,780 m² of solar panels.
  • The port and the bathing zone.

For the most curious of you

  • Did you know? The solar panels generate enough power for 1,000 homes and prevent the emission of 440 tonnes of CO2 per year.
  • Local’s tip: Apart from being a concert venue, the Fòrum also plays host to numerous recreational areas, such as an urban forest with acrobatic circuits and zip-lines for all ages. It is also home to Europe’s largest escape room and Café del Mar.
  • A must: To contemplate the last area of Barcelona to be developed.
