Why visit Maremàgnum?
Maremàgnum was created as the result of the transformation and recovery of Barcelona’s seafront that took place in the 1980s in preparation for the Barcelona ’92 Olympic Games. It is a shopping centre that although located on the Moll d’Espanya quay is joined to Moll de la Fusta and Plaça del Portal de la Pau via La Rambla de Mar, a 380 metre long wooden walkway over the water.
In the 1980s and 1990s a process was started to recover the old port of Barcelona, in which the Espanya quay was to be used for recreational facilities, such as Barcelona Aquarium and Maremàgnum, which were inaugurated in 1995. Even though initially the centre focused on nightlife, in the first few years of the 21st century Maremàgnum implemented a strategic change to become a space used in the daytime by families.
